Corona del Mar residents and businesses will benefit from attending this unique City Election Forum co-sponsored by the CdM Residents Association (CdMRA) and the CdM Chamber of Commerce (CdM Chamber). Both organizations advocate for their memberships and work together on issues to improve living and working in Corona del Mar.
CdM’s City Election Forum, our local Voters’ Education Event, is a consistently popular program that is always engaging, informative and unique.
Long-time local journalist and publisher Tom Johnson (Stu News and formerly Daily Pilot) will moderate the CdM Election Forum. Mr. Johnson will use questions prepared by CdMRA and CdM Chamber that reflect the issues and concerns of their respective members.
CdMRA will publish its Special Edition Election Newsletter prior to the event. It will contain articles from all qualified incumbents and candidates. Ballot measure summaries will also be included.
The Candidates
Newport Beach City elections are “at large”, so all who are registered to vote in Newport Beach may vote for one candidate in each of the districts below:
District 1: Incumbent Joe Stapleton and Challenger Tina Babajanians
District 3: Incumbent Erik Weigand and Challengers Walter Stahr and Tim Stoaks
District 4: Incumbent Robyn Grant (unopposed)
District 6: Incumbent Lauren Kleiman and Challenger Andy Gerken

Ballot Measures
It now appears that there will be four ballot measures for the November election. Measure H will appear on the ballot we receive from OC Registrar of Voters; Measures P, Q and R will appear on a separate ballot from the City of Newport Beach. Following is a brief overview of the ballot measures, along with a recently published Ballot Measure page on the City’s website.
Measure H – The Responsible Housing Initiative
This measure seeks to amend the City’s General Plan to allow for fewer dwelling units than City Council submitted in their state-approved Housing Element. The Measure H plan authors believe their plan still meets the state-mandated requirements of California’s housing laws. The City has a webpage devoted to Ballot Measure H which includes the ballot measure language as well as the arguments and rebuttals for and against Measure H. Click here to review.
There are three additional initiatives that qualified and were approved by the courts to be voted on in November. Given the challenges by the parties and the resulting lateness of these proceedings, these three measures will appear in a separate ballot being sent to Newport Beach Voters:
- One ballot from OC Registrar of Voters with state, county, local candidates, and Newport Beach City Council candidates and Measure H
- One ballot from the City of Newport Beach with just the most recent three ballot measures:
- Measure P: City Council Term Limits
- Measure Q: District Voting
- Measure R: Public Meetings, Records, Oversight and Enforcement
